Total Experience Calculator

Add employment periods to get total years and months for your resume.

Use on resume:

Calculate total years of work experience

Job forms often ask for “total experience” in years and months. Enter employment start and end dates for each role to compute accurate tenure — useful for resume headers, LinkedIn, and Naukri profiles.

Decide whether to include internships: many freshers count relevant internships; senior roles usually count full-time only unless the form says otherwise.

Ensure resume dates match calculated totals to avoid recruiter confusion during background checks.

Recruiters compare your stated “X years experience” against employment dates on your resume and LinkedIn. Mismatches trigger background-check questions — especially for lateral hires in Indian IT and banking where notice periods overlap.

Use calculated totals in your resume headline, Naukri profile, and HR forms consistently. Round to the nearest month only when forms require whole years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Short gaps need not be labeled; gaps over 6–12 months may warrant a brief line (education, health, family) if you are comfortable sharing.

Part-time overlap can count toward total experience if both were concurrent and relevant.

Include as experience with client names and date ranges if substantial and relevant to the target role.

Relevant paid internships often count for freshers; most senior forms count full-time roles only unless stated otherwise.

Use “Present” as end date for current role. The calculator should include partial months up to today.
